Environmental Impact
I think it's important for you to know not only what this column will be about, but also a bit about its author. After all, we'll be discussing some very important topics in the months ahead; I know I'd want to understand the information originates from an experienced and credible source.
To begin with, I am a working environmental project manager specializing in planning, environmental impact assessment and public policy analysis. Over my career, which now exceeds 20 years, I have directed numerous teams preparing Environmental Impact Reports (EIR), Environmental Impact Studies (EIS), Environmental Assessments (EA), Mitigated Negative Declarations (MND), Specific Plans and water/wastewater resource and hazardous material studies. These documents have allowed the development of a wide range of projects: downtown revitalization plans, major mixed-use developments, large/small scale residential developments, regional transportation corridor and utility transmission line studies, and commercial and industrial developments. I have also managed the preparation of environmental documents for state correctional facilities and site-specific hazardous materials investigations. My primary areas of interest have been in land use, aesthetic analysis, transportation/circulation, geology, hydrology, public services, utilities and cultural resources.
I hold a Bachelor's in Urban Geography with additional post graduate studies in both Urban and Regional Planning and Environmental Studies. I am actively involved with my peers as a member of a number of industry organizations, including the Association of Environmental Professionals and the American Planning Association.
In our special feature , you will be able to read about my organization, as well. I am extremely proud of the work we do on behalf of our clients. My personal goal is to ensure that the need for local development is balanced with environmental stewardship, and that will be a main focus in this monthly column. I plan to discuss areas of interest to developers including recent environmental decisions, listed species, water issues, cultural/archaeological issues, mitigation land banking, etc. to help "demystify" some of the complexities of this changing area. If you would like a specific topic addressed, please let me know via e-mail at jbrandman@brandman.com. I look forward to the opportunity to address your environmental issues in the months ahead.
