BORM Engineers
BORM Engineers has enjoyed a successful relationship with John Laing Homes for nearly 9 years. We have collaborated on over 80 projects consisting of single-family detached and multifamily products. The Roubion project is another great example of our shared commitment to designing unique homes of the highest quality.
WE SPECIALIZE IN:
Single-family tract homes; custom residences; multifamily residential, apartments, condominiums; senior and assisted living; military housing; educational housing; urban infill; mixed-use (both on-grade and podium); hospitality; commercial/retail centers; office buildings; and hotels/motels/extended stays.
Roubion is a tract housing project, resembling high caliber custom estate homes. Due to the unique and unusual architectural options, sizes and other design challenges not typical of tract homes, framing was more complex. Our experienced team of professional engineers was able to work through these challenges successfully and enjoyed being part of the John Laing Homes team. (Photo by Bruce Schneider)
PRODUCTS AND SERVICES WE OFFER:
Wood frame structural engineering, light gauge steel structural engineering, post-tension foundation design, construction administration/structural site observation, value engineering, peer review, roof truss drawings, civil engineering (select markets), mechanical and plumbing engineering (select markets).
TYPE OF CLIENT WE PREFER TO WORK WITH:
Local, regional and national builders, developers and architects, as well as international developers.
GEOGRAPHIC AREAS WE WORK IN:
Western United States: BORM currently has offices in Pleasanton, Roseville, Sacramento and Costa Mesa, CA; Las Vegas, NV; Phoenix, Tucson, AZ; and Denver, CO.
International: With an office located in Beijing, China we have been the Engineer of Record on numerous projects in Asia, Europe and South America, and continue to work with clients in these regions.
OUR COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE:
Through our Value Engineering program, we work closely with architects and other consultants at the conceptual design phase to discuss ways in which construction costs can be reduced without jeopardizing architectural intent. Our willingness to work with trades to find balance between theory of engineering and practicality of construction has allowed us to be extremely successful and set us apart from our peers.
Our quality control process includes a three-tier series of internal checks. Final submittal drawings are reviewed by a principal of the firm with consideration to quality, economics and constructability. Our quality assurance program has contributed to our firm having one of the lowest construction defect litigation settlement ratios in the industry.
Each one of our divisions has a full-service construction administration department allowing for prompt responses for site visits, field fixes and field clarifications. Our engineers are well-versed in the regional codes and practices in all the markets we serve. Being cognizant and having exceptional knowledge of real-world solutions facing framers, superintendents and project managers, we are able to respond effectively and efficiently. We have a staff of over 160 in 10 offices. Additionally, our firm is licensed in Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, Utah and Washington.
We have played a pivotal role in the research and development of light gauge steel for framing through industry alliances as well as universities. We were one of the original structural engineering firms who pioneered the use of sheath metal as a shear resisting element and the first to use a specialty header to economize on material. Our expertise in these areas has established us as a leading authority for builders in the U.S. and overseas who seek consultation and design services.
KIND OF PROJECTS WE REALLY LOVE TO DO:
While unique and challenging projects are most welcomed at BORM, our firm designs both residential and commercial projects, from small-scale single-family dwellings to complex urban-infill products.
