By Krista Vossekuil
The Home Builders Association of Northern California held its 33rd annual Installation Gala at the landmark Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco on Saturday, Jan. 20, to inaugurate 2007 leadership.
The installation of Chairman of the Board Steve Johnson, St. James Properties, as well as the Board of Directors and council/committee chairpersons was the culmination of the festivities at the black-tie event that drew more than 350 individuals from HBANC member companies.
HBANC President and CEO Joseph Perkins emceed his second gala, reinforcing the night's theme of "building on past traditions for future success." Welcoming new leadership, but not forgetting those departing, Perkins presented outgoing chair Greg Mix, William Lyon Homes, with a framed gift representing highlights and achievements from his tenure. His wife Mary also received a personal thank you from Perkins accompanied by a beautiful floral bouquet.

The dinner program included presentations of three coveted HBANC awards honoring Concord-based Graphic Reproduction as Associate Member of the Year, and Troy Bevilacqua with the SPIKE Award recognizing his achievement of bringing in 20 new association members last year. HBANC Southern Division Executive Director of Governmental Affairs Beverley Bryant received the Chairman's Award from Mix as the sold-out crowd applauded her lobbying triumphs.

To close the evening, Perkins narrated a surprise biographical presentation of Johnson - including photos from his youth - before the new chair gave his inaugural address, setting forth the association's goals for the year that include further implementation of HBANC's strategic plan and grand public affairs efforts. Presented with a look-alike bobblehead, Johnson performed his first charges as chairman by welcoming the 2007 Board of Directors and presenting regional board, committee and council leadership with their gavels.
